3/2: MAX SAFETY

In the last several months, regional leaders have been asked to respond to criminal problems on and around MAX light rail lines. As serious as the violence is, I'm far more worried about the joy ride Steven Stein took two weeks ago in his white Pontiac Grand Prix. Stein made it nearly a mile into the Westside MAX tunnel before his car came to a stop shortly before the underground Washington Park Zoo station. At our Candidates Gone Wild debate on April 28, I'm going to ask our city leaders what they will do to protect me - a frequent MAX rider -- from threatening behavior from drunk men in Pontiacs. I will also be asking for a plan to deal with the very real possibility of a coyote attack on my next light rail trip to the airport.

2/18: Welcome!

Citizens,

Welcome to the League of eXtraordinary Voters, the official blog of Candidates Gone Wild.

We have gathered you here today because the 2008 Oregon primary elections have descended upon our fair state. The stakes are high, the candidates many and the issues varied.  A less than eXtraordinary citizen could easily end up facing a fate worse than death:  being uninformed on election day.  Enter the League of eXtraordinary Voters.  With our analytical prowess, large, powerful hands and color-coordinated Codpieces of Knowledge, the LXV will make you an informed voter whether you like it or not.

Up until the May 20th election, each week we will seek answers to such questions as:

-Who would win in a hotdog-eating contest: Jeff Merkley or Steve Novick?
-Is the Attorney General actually a general?
-How often do political bloggers change their underwear?
-Does Sam Adams like me? (Check one: __Yes __No)
-How many possible puns can one make on “Sho Dozono”?
-Who the hell is Slav Davidzon?
-and many, many more…

The LXV is about democracy, and democracy is about you.  As such, the League will also be offering a number of polls, contests and weird web mischief for readers.  So hang on, keep your special decoder rings handy, and let’s get ready for some local and/or state politics!

eXtraodinarily yours,
Adrian Chen and Jake Oken-Berg (co-chairs, Social Committee, League of eXtraordinary Voters).

P.S. Mark your calendars for the event of the century, Candidates Gone Wild, this April 28th at the Roseland Theater.
