2024 youth power agenda

We’re working towards a world that values and invests in Black, Indigenous, and youth of color, disabled, low-income, and LGBTQ+ youth. Our legislative priorities for the 2024 short session (just 35 days long from February to March) were chosen by the young people in our base and are focused on critical investments towards youth mental health, housing and preventing homelessness, and care over jail for people struggling with addiction.

  • Led by Stable Homes for Oregon Families

Rent assistance and eviction prevention measures are critical interventions to keep our homelessness crisis from getting even worse. Everyday, young Oregonians are struggling to make ends meet, facing eviction and homelessness as a result. We must invest in proven strategies to protect housing stability and prevent homelessness while we work towards long-term solutions.

$45 million in rent assistance in OHCS Budget for rent assistance through community action agencies and community-based organizations.

$10 million to the Urban League of Oregon for culturally specific housing stability services.

$6 million to the Home Fund at Oregon Worker Relief for housing stability services for immigrant Oregonians.

$2 million for outreach services for residents of expiring affordable housing units.

  • Led by Oregonians for Safety and Recovery Coalition

    Defense against House Bill 4002

State lawmakers are preparing to force through laws to criminalize drug addiction and poverty. We need you to tell them NO to House Bill 4002. Recriminalization will harm people – especially Black, brown, and poor people – and make drug addiction and homelessness more difficult and expensive to solve.

Instead, lawmakers should focus on the real solutions that Oregonians deserve, including accessible and sufficient addiction treatment, mental health services, affordable housing, and prevention education.

  • Led by Oregon School Based Health Allaince

    Support: House Bill 4070

We are experiencing a youth mental health crisis in this country and Oregon is ranked dead last for youth mental health, with the highest rates of depression and limited access to support.

Schools are the heart of our communities, and placing school-based health centers, school nurses, and mental health providers onsite provides low-barrier access to the care our youth desperately need.
